NASCAR TV ratings improve at Vegas

Television ratings for both the NASCAR Busch and Nextel Cup races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway increased substantially last weekend.

The Busch race, which aired on ABC earned a 2.4 rating (2,699,000 households). The ratings increased 58-percent from last year’s broadcast that was aired on FX.

France Jr. hospitalized in Daytona

Former NASCAR chairman Bill France Jr. was hospitalized Wednesday night at Halifax Medical Center, where he was under the care of his personal physicians.

His condition was not known, and NASCAR officials confirmed only that the 73-year-old France had been admitted.

France took control of NASCAR in 1972. He replaced his father, William Henry Getty France, who founded NASCAR in 1947. But it was France Jr.

Everyone expected Toyota to storm into NASCAR and quickly buy its way to the top of the Nextel Cup series.

Top drivers explored Toyota’s opportunities, and many a top crew member eagerly switched camps. It left rival car owners quivering, scared they wouldn’t be able to compete.

Hardly!

Forget about winning races, the Japanese automaker barely can get into them. Heading into this Sunday’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Toyota entries are a humbling 10-for-22 through three events this season.

Busch crew chiefs for Harvick, Nemechek fined

NASCAR announced today that Mike Boerschinger, crew chief of the No. 87 Chevrolet driven by Joe Nemechek and Shane Wilson, crew chief of the No. 21 Chevrolet driven by Kevin Harvick in the NASCAR Busch Series, have been penalized due to rule violations at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
