Montoya gets first penalty, new home

Juan Pablo Montoya got his first glimpse of NASCAR’s heavy hand when the first-year driver was fined $10,000 (?7,350) for making an obscene gesture on live television.

Montoya raised his middle finger to the camera mounted inside his car after a test session two races ago in Phoenix. He said the gesture was a joke with the TV crew that had been following him the past month for an ABC network special program.

Montoya to try dirt-track racing

Stock-car racing is still new to Colombian rookie Juan Pablo Montoya. But dirt-track racing is something he hadn’t considered until Tony Stewart came up with an invitation.

Montoya will join Stewart and a large group of NACAR drivers on June 6 on the dirt at Eldora Speedway in a charity race for the Victory Junction Gang Camp in North Carolina and the Tony Stewart Foundation.
