NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Aaron Fike and his fiancee were released Tuesday after spending the weekend in jail on drug charges, Fike’s attorney said.

Fike and Cassandra Davidson, both of Cornelius, N.C., were arrested Saturday in the parking lot of Kings Island amusement park north of Cincinnati after security officers observed suspicious activity in Fike’s sport utility vehicle and found syringes and a brown substance believed to be heroin, police said.

A small plane crashes near Orlando, Florida killing at least five people, including the husband of a NASCAR executive. Dr. Bruce Kennedy, the husband of International Speedway Corp. official Lesa France Kennedy, was killed Tuesday morning in a plane crash in Sanford, Fla. according to a report on the Daytona News Journal Web site.

No penalties for questioned springs

NASCAR has determined the springs it confiscated from the No. 5 Busch Series Chevrolet of Kyle Busch after last Saturday’s race at Daytona International Speedway are legal.

NASCAR spokeswoman Tracey Judd said Monday the front springs taken from the car Busch drove in the Winn Dixie 250 for being “slightly under” the minimum allowed by rule were remeasured at the research and development center in Concord, N.C., and found to be within the allowable tolerance.
