Marlin, Nemechek out at Ginn Racing

Ginn Racing replaced Sterling Marlin in its No. 14 Chevrolet with 23-year-old rookie Regan Smith on Tuesday, and released veteran Joe Nemechek.

Jaye Frye, Ginn Racing’s CEO and general manager, also said that Aric Almirola, another 23-year-old, signed with Joe Gibbs Racing and will become Mark Martin’s co-driver in the No. 01 Chevrolet for the remainder of this season. Almirola will also share the ride with the veteran racer in 2008.

Labonte to drive Waltrip’s No. 55 at Indy

Two-time NASCAR champion Terry Labonte, who tested for Michael Waltrip Racing at Kentucky Speedway on Tuesday, will substitute for Waltrip in the No. 55 NAPA Camry in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 29.

NASCAR announced today that Mike Beam, crew chief for the No. 6 Ford in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, has been fined $10,000 for violating Section 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4Q (track parts, components or equipment that doesn’t conform to NASCAR Rules) and 20B-12.8.1A (minimum roof height).
