Notes: Second-place finish can’t save Junior

Not even Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s best finish of the season could save him from a dip in the Chase for the Nextel Cup standings.

All Junior got for second place at Pocono Raceway was a drop out of his spot in the points race. Kurt Busch used his first victory of the season on Sunday to leapfrog Earnhardt from 13th to 12th for the final slot in the field, leaving Earnhardt with five races to qualify for the 10-race Chase.
