Schrader holds off Wise to win ARCA race

Longtime Nextel Cup driver Ken Schrader won the ARCA RE/MAX-Southern Illinois 100 for the second straight year, beating Josh Wise by 0.364 seconds on the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds’ mile dirt oval.

Schrader passed Wise for the lead on the 85th lap in the 100-lap race and held on for his 15th career ARCA victory. Schrader pitted only once, for fuel and tires on lap 20.

Josh Richards was third, followed by A.J.

Jimmie Johnson grabbed a victory Sunday night at California Speedway, clinching a spot in NASCAR’s Chase for the Nextel Cup championship and guaranteeing he will be no worse than a tie for the top seed in the 10-race playoff.

Johnson dominated the second half of the Sharp Aquos 500, a race that began in bright sunshine with temperatures over 100 degrees and finished under the lights. It was his fifth victory of the season, but his first since May 6 at Richmond.
