Reigning truck champion takes ‘Dega pole

Reigning series champion Todd Bodine took the pole position for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck race at Talladega Superspeedway, beating out three-time champion Jack Sprague in Friday’s qualifying.

Bodine turned a fast lap of 181.811 mph, while Sprague was close behind at 181.639. It is Bodine’s second pole of the season but only the third of his 85-race truck career.

Mike Skinner, who leads Ron Hornaday Jr. by just three points in the season standings, qualified eighth. Hornaday was 13th.

NASCAR penalized Denny Hamlin 15 minutes of the 45-minute Happy Hour due to not following a directive from the tower to discontinue rough driving during the first practice session at Talladega Superspeedway Friday morning.
