Stewart: Goodyear should listen to drivers

Tony Stewart defended his harsh criticism of the tires Goodyear brought to Atlanta last weekend and said that it was time to speak out after years of closed door meetings failed to produce a solution.

“You finally get to the point where, if you get frustrated enough, now it’s gone from doing things in a nice, calm manner to I want to make sure I get somebody’s attention about this,” Stewart said Wednesday.

Jimmie Johnson is off to a terrible start - for Jimmie Johnson, that is.

The two-time reigning NASCAR Sprint Cup champion simply isn’t used to being ordinary.

He heads to Bristol this week a mediocre 13th in the standings after the first four races of the season and is already 198 points behind the series leader, former Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Busch.

The latest crop of NASCAR Sprint Cup rookies is collectively in need of a big day heading into Sunday’s race at Bristol.

None of the four drivers in the competition for Raybestos Rookie of the Year is currently in the top 35 in owners points, with just one more race to get there or face another hurdle.

Under current NASCAR rules, cars in the top 35 are guaranteed a starting spot each week, while everyone else has to attempt to qualify on time for the few remaining starting positions.

Dale Jarrett urges Goodyear to listen to Stewart

Dale Jarrett on Tuesday called on Goodyear to listen carefully to Tony Stewart’s complaints about the tires the company has produced this season.

Although some drivers believe Stewart went overboard in his criticism of Goodyear following Sunday’s race in Atlanta, Jarrett said the manufacturer needs to start constructing a better tire for Sprint Cup racing.
